About the Author
Tom Riordan was the vice president and general manager of the Microprocessor Products Division at PMC-Sierra. Mr. Riordan is one of the pioneers of the original MIPS architecture and brings over 17 years of experience to the microprocessor industry. Today PMC-Sierra provides the world's most comprehensive family of MIPS-based microprocessors.
Prior to joining PMC-Sierra, Mr. Riordan, co-founder of Quantum Effect Devices, Inc. (QED), was the chief executive officer, president and director since its inception in August 1991. QED designed, developed and marketed high-performance, cost-effective, market-driven embedded microprocessor solutions targeted at fast-growing communications markets. QED was acquired by PMC-Sierra in August 2000.
Mr. Riordan is a frequent speaker on microprocessor matters at industry conferences, including the International Solid State Circuit (ISSCC) Conference, the Microprocessor Forum and the Embedded Processor Forum.
